On the 3rd of November 2020 Botho University had the pleasure of hosting the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology, and Energy Security (MMGE) in collaboration with United States Embassy Botswana through United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Botswana in launching the Rooftop Solar Programme (RTS).
BU was chosen as a host for this launch given its rooftop solar power project and has been given a Certificate of Completition by the same ministry. The programme was officially launched by Hon. Minister Mr. Lefoko Maxwell Moagi, Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security. The goal of the programme is to provide an affordable, reliable and adequate supply of energy for sustainable development as well as to improve access to an efficient use of energy resources.
The RTS is implemented to create an environment in which end users can generate their own electricity and sell any excess to Botswana Power Corporation. The programme is an alternative suitable mechanism to facilitate private sector participation and increase the uptake of solar energy. The event was also graced by Hon. Minister Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe, Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology and Hon. Minister Peggy Serame, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.
