BU MASERU CAMPUS CONTRIBUTES TO THE LESOTHO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY (LCCI) COVID-19 SOLIDARITY FUND

Botho university as a member of the Lesotho Chamber of Commerce & Industry has contributed M100 000.00 to the COVID-19 Solidarity Fund which will assist the LCCI in  working with the Government to prevent the Corona Virus. 

The cash donation was presented during the COVID-19 Solidarity Fund ceremony launch held at the Victory Hall on the 18th June 2020. The event was well attended by Cabinet Ministers Honorable, Motlatsi Maqelepo, Keketso Sello, Dr. Thabiso Molapo and Chief Thesele Maseribane representing Health, Small Business Development, Trade & Industry and Communications respectively.
 

Presenting the objectives of the Fund, Mr Thuso Green highlighted that the Fund is created for:

  • Advancing advocacy and spreading the Covid-19 messages in partnership with the media houses, LCCI members websites which will include a Border patrol reinforcement.
  • Reinforcing of the Covid-19 public health regulations which includes installing tippy taps in selected primary schools.
  • Supporting affected businesses whenever there is a need.

Announcing at the ceremony Mrs Mamashea Tikiso revealed that they have received contributions from Botho University, DataNet, Moradi Crushers, Informative Newspaper and Bosiu Consult.
On behalf of Botho University, Mrs. Mankhole Masisi-Thakhisi thanked and applauded the LCCI for this noble initiative and also stated that the University will assist in the economic growth and recognition in the region.

She also appealed to other corporates and fellow citizens to do more in support of the Solidarity Fund. The Minister of Health, Hon. Motlatsi Maqelepo on behalf of the Government of Lesotho congratulated the LCCI for creating the Solidarity Fund as it was long overdue. The Minister mentioned that they are facing enormous challenges with the ailing health care system in Lesotho especially with regards to the need for Personal Protective Clothing (PPE), testing & tracing of individuals with Corona virus and he appealed to the nation to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations such as Sanitizing, Hand washing and Wearing mask at all times especially when in public areas in order to stay safe.
