Botho University on Friday, 26th June 2020 handed out Masks to Form C and E students at Mampota High School. The relationship between BU & Mampota High School, began with the Hlokomela Banana project where the University was assisting girls in the school with the distribution of Free Sanitary Towels. This noble gesture by BU comes at the time when the world is battling the Corona Virus (Covid-19). The contribution at a crucial time in order to protect students from the virus in preparation of reopening schools.
In her opening remarks the Principal of Mampota High School thanked the University for always being there at the time of need. The representative from the Ministry of Education, Mrs Palesa Melau said ‘It is an honor for the students to be chosen to receive this valuable gift,’ she further applauded the University for always providing a giving hand. Mrs Nozipho Lerotholi on behalf of Berea District Command Center, gave an insightful brief on COVID 19, and its possible impact on the country. She further explained in detail the importance of masks and washing hands with running water at all times thus taking measures to protect ourselves against the virus.
On behalf of Botho University, Mrs. Mankhole Masisi-Thakhisi informed those present that the initiative was done to support the students and the school to prepare for resumption of teaching and learning once schools open. This community engagement initiative was done under the banner of the Students Affairs & Alumni Department (SAAD) whose responsibilities include the welfare of students and community engagement amongst others. A total of 65 students and teaching of Mampota High School received masks.
Mrs Masisi-Thakhisi concluded by providing a brief history of Botho University and the bouquet of academic programmes offered by the University, which have all received accreditation from the Council on Higher Education ( CHE) in Lesotho.
