Very soon, you’ll be shouting ‘Happy Human Rights Day’ but do you really know what exactly it means?

Not only should you celebrate it, but understand what that means for you

Human rights are believed to belong to every person, protecting people from any other discrimination that prohibit their rights.

Below are some crucial rights you should know:

Education

Everyone has the right to basic education, including adult basic education.

Equality

Everyone is equal and must be treated equally

Human dignity

Everyone has inherent dignity and the right to have their dignity respected.

Life

Everyone has the right to life and nobody, not even the state has the right to take someone’s life.

Freedom and security

This means that no one can be put in prison without a good reason. It means that all humans have the right to be free from all forms of violence from either public or private sources.

Personal privacy

No one has the right to search your house or property without following the correct legal channels.

Freedom of expression

Everyone has the freedom to say, write or print what they want, however this right should never violate anyone’s right.

Children

All children have the right to parental care, shelter and food. Children may not be neglected or abused or even forced to work.

These are the basic rights that belong to every person in the world. They can never be taken away, but can be restricted should you break the law.

They apply regardless of where you are from or how you choose to live.

Its important for one to know and understand their human rights.
