BOTHOHACKS 2020 at Gaborone campus

A Hackathon is an event that lasts for some days, and brings as many participants (hackers) to show off their hacking skills or collaborative computer programming in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, domain experts, and so on.

The world over Hackathons have proved to be not only synonymous with technological advancement but it determines the level of an individual’s understanding of the latest trends in trade.

Multitudes of hackathon events are held across the world with new ones being launched, changing the face of computer programming and launching new possibilities for hackers.

Awards have been innovated to recognize the hard work put in by these tech geeks. 

Realizing the role played by the hacking profession, Botho University’s Gaborone campus is hosting a hackathon titled BothoHacks 2020, a must attend for aspiring hackers.

Dates and time are as follows:

Monday 16 March 2020 from 7.30AM to 6PM

Tues 17 March 2020 from 7.30AM to 5PM

Venue: Botho University, Gaborone, Botswana.

The competition is for students who wish to be entrepreneurs and also want to learn new computing skills, develop new technologies, and help build tomorrow’s knowledge-based economy.

BothoHacks 2020 is Botswana’s first student-focused, student-organized computing hackathon sponsored by Botho University, Clemson University, and the US National Science Foundation.

Themed “Developing Technology to improve life in Africa”, this year’s edition promises to the participant much more learning and great fun.

Come ready to create, compete, attend workshops, improve your skills and also show off your creations to government representatives and local businesses. Plenty of prospects could be awaiting you!

Over P30, 000 worth of prizes will be awarded in categories like “Best Hack for Good” and “Best Beginner Hack”.

Sounding cool as it may seem, becoming a hacker is not by chance. One has to undergo a thorough computer programming training to be an expert. It’s important to study and get an accredited qualification in Computer Technology from the Botho Distance Learning Programme offering online students the chance to become a hacker.

I am really interested it taking part in this event with some colleagues from work and want to find out if this hackerthon event will be open to others and if its not if we may join, we work in Johannesburg/South Africa in Cyber Security as pentesters and would be interested in attending, I look forward to your response.
