Barely 6 months after her graduation, Kesego Obona is already flying the Botho brand high as an employee of Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights, a 5 Star Hotel in Dubai Healthcare City. The young graduate jetted off to the Arabian city in October 2019 after a series of Skype interviews with the Human Resource Manager of the hotel.
This opportunity was one of the many fruits of her participation at the World Tourism Forum in Switzerland where she networked with Regional Human Resource Manager for the Middle East and learned about the prospects of working for the esteemed international hotel chain. She later applied to the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights hotel where she emerged as one of the successful candidates.
Kesego describes her stay in Dubai so far as an eye-opening and once in a lifetime experience. With Dubai being the pinnacle of hospitality, she has been exposed to a new level of the industry, which is a different ballpark from our modest offering here in Botswana that she was used to.
From the customer service to the use of technology and even the magnitude of the facilities. The hotel, for instance, boasts of 463 rooms spanning over 34 floors, meeting facilities, spas, a shopping centre, an array of award-winning restaurants and many other amenities.
Expectedly so, such an opportunity comes with its demands such as hard work and long working hours but as Kesego aptly states, one has to be open to the learning experience and be ready to put in the hours that come with it.
The young professional says that she has never been more excited to pursue a career in hospitality and she intends to use her time in Dubai to grow into the best version of herself.
To her younger self, she would like to say; “dreams come true” and to aspiring hospitality graduates she says; “set goals, put in the work to achieve them, let the opportunity find you ready”.
From the Faculty of Hospitality, we say “we are proud of you!”
